The Washington State Parent Information and Resource Center in Walla Walla is located at Blue Ridge Elementary School at 1150 West Chestnut St. Classes, at no cost to parents, meaningful information, and parent resources are available. News Update

WA-PIRC had a successful year offering classes in Walla Walla at no cost to parents, as well as keeping them supplied with meaningful  information and parent resources. Some of the more popular classes offered were Beginning Computers, English as a Second Language, Lifestyle Management, Love & Logic, and a presentation regarding Gangs. Community members volunteered to assist with child care. In the late Spring, a Getting Ready to Learn class was taught to parents and their preschoolers in preparation for getting them ready for kindergarten. The last Advisory Committee meeting was held on March 11, whereby parents, school administrators, and community members had an opportunity to give input as to the needs of the community and its link to schools. The WA-PIRC Board met on April 15 at the Walla Walla Community College for their annual meeting.

What's Going on in Walla Walla

• WWCC and General Hospital have a parent cooperative preschool at Pioneer United Methodist Church on Tuesday's and Thursday's. The Thursday class has a Hispanic teacher for Hispanic families. The classes are 9:30-11:30 am and include lots of playtime, music and parent education classes. They are also free. For more information call 527-8000 ext 1665.

• Our afternoon WW Parent Cooperative meets at the Parent Child Center on the WWCC campus Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:15-2:15 pm. The Parent Coop is a great place to participate with your child in a preschool setting. Music, movement, play, science and literacy activities are included in the program. The class is open to the entire community. **** Teacher Andrea Unck is bilingual in Spanish and incorporates Spanish language learning into the daily classes. Tuition is $70 per month. Parents meet once per month in the evening. Partial and full scholarships are available. For more information or to sign up please call the Parent Child Center at 527-4237.
