The Washington State Parent Information and Resource Center in Connell is located in the building near the Palouse Junction Alternative High School at 110 N. Chelan St. Classes, at no cost to parents, meaningful information, and parent resources are available. Check the Winter Quarter calendar to preview classes and upcoming events. News Update
Connell’s WA-PIRC had a successful year offering classes at no cost to parents, as well as keeping them supplied with meaningful information and parent resources. Some of the more popular classes offered were Beginning Computers and English as a Second Language. Two presentations regarding Gangs were made available by the Connell Police Department. Connell high school students provided necessary child care. WA-PIRC partnered with Mid Columbia Library Systems to provide an evening entitled Families Reading Together, which included many interactive literacy activities. The Reading Foundation supplied literature books for all of the children. In the late Spring, a Getting Ready to Learn class was taught to parents and their preschoolers in preparation for getting them ready for kindergarten. The last Advisory Committee meeting was held on March 25, whereby parents, school administrators, and community members had an opportunity to give input as to the needs of the community and its link to schools.
